  • 1.  Re-build of 1 of 2 SEPM servers used for dual fail over purposes

Hi All wondered if you could help!

I have spent some time searching but couldnt find any posts/issues similar to my own.

We have two VM servers that run SEPM connecting to a 2005 sql db server for the SEP db. providing dual / fail over service to over 3k sep cleints.

We need to shut down server 1 and create it a new VM server image and reload sepm back onto it and point it back to db

we initially had a slight issue with the servers running at 100% cpu when we set up server 2 for fail over but that was resolved with symantec help.

What i would like is help with is the best way to rebuild our frist server.

I'm under the impression that it goes this way...
    • Stop services on 1st server and shut it down.
    • on 2nd server go into SEPM console and remove 1st server from server management list.
    • Rebuild Vm (new OS) and then reload
    • ensure both servers can talk to db and that clients can still communicate to sepm.
Am i missing something or do i need to stop services on both servers when i shut 1st one down?

You help / advice on this matter would be great thanks!

    You are correct !

You want to move the first server ,
    so stop the first server
remove the first server from the management server list
    Install SEPM on New OS
    Point it to the DB

How do I move Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager from one server to another with a different IP address and host name?
