  • 1.  Reboot to ( WinPE / Linux) task completes, but PC never restarts

    Does anybody have this issue?

XP SP3, latest updates with SMP 7.x + CMS suite.

I have a job that will run the reboot to PXE  environment (WinPE in this instance). the agent on the client PC will get it, and then if you look at the tasks, it shows that it completed successfully, however the PC itself will not shutdown.  The agent will still be running, but the agent status will say "shutting down" (but never shut down as its still running as a process).

Currently it seems intermittent, but I am not exactly sure what I can do to resolve this issue.  I had other issues with it not taking a reboot task after joining it to the domain, however I was able to remedy that by instead using a task that does a "shutdown /r /t 10" and that worked wonders.  I unfortunately cannot do this with the reboot to PXE task as it needs that task to make sure the PXE server knows to pick it up when it asks.

    Any ideas?

Verify that on you client machine has Client Task Server assigned. As i have observed, if client machine does not have Client Task Server, it shows as shutting down.
Do you have installed Automation Folder along with Deployment Agent/plug-in. (this is required in DS 7.1)

    Those all look good.

the automation folder / other agents are part of the image i deploy, and it had gotten the image deployed to a few days ago already...

I have a daily job that re-images a PC and then runs a nessus scan to verify my image is up to date.  In the future it'll be setup to have a full lab setup, with PCs running our software to verify, but thats a ways out.

For some reason though, it just iddn't restart and it will occasionally do that..  not sure where to look or how to troubleshoot it as it seems the agent shuts down or it gets the shutdown, but then the PC never actually shuts it down.

I was thinking of putting a vbscript that does a shutdown /r /t 300 so that if the reboot to PXE works, it restarts anyway, but it if doesnt restart it but does consider it a success, it will kick the reboot in 5 minutes anyway, allowing PXE to pick it up.
