  • 1.  Reboot workstation scripts after patch management

I send the patch management to all my users, but some of patch require user reboot, example MS08-067, it require reboot to take affect for the view vulnerable computers, but some of my users they just don't care for reboot.

I would like to know if I can create an job for software delivery that send the reboot scripts to those machines, but I will run the job at night for this purpose.

    Thanks.

This certainly is possible. Why don't you just force a reboot with patch management? If you must use software delivery, I would try using the Windows utility shutdown.exe. It should be available via one of the OS resource packs.

    Jim,

Last month when I submitted patch managment, I check that never reboot, so the job already done, I know this month when I submit the patch again, I will force reboot 5:00am in the morning,

But I still want force user reboot their machine, so if I use shutdown.exe /r and create the task for this with collections, you think this will be work?

    Thanks

It should work fine. You can also use a power management task via Task Server or Deployment Server to reboot the systems.

If you don't have task server installed, you can use it on deployment server. It simply allows you to schedule a reboot, or shutdown on client computers. The Task Server leverages the NS client and the DS leverages the aclient.

    Jim,

Are you talk about Software Delivery Tasks for task server?

    Hi Lilian,

    On Notification Server:
    Power Management Task
Go to Configuration > Server Settings > Notification Server Infrastructure > Task Server > Power Management Task Agent RollOut

    You could use:
Task > Task Management > Samples > Restart
Add the computer you need to reboot
You have all options down there...
You could create your own Tasks by cloning this "Restart" and apply to your collections...through the Scheduling you will choose a collection as well as a schedule.

    On Deployment Server:
Right Click on the computer you need to reboot Choose Power Control > Restart
You could also create your own job/task
    check under the Job pane:
Samples > Misc Jobs > Power Control
You have a task called "Restart Computer" you could clone it or use it in a job.

    Thanks
