Recently, I have received complaints that some computers are rebooting outside the maintenance schedule. After reviewing the event logs on the suspect computers, the event log reads that reboot was due to Application: Maintenance (Planned) Minor Reason: 0x1 Shutdown Type: reboot Comment Shutdown requested by Altiris Agent.

I have checked the maintenance plans and the only reboot is once on the weekend, the patch management packages are all scheduled for 3:00 AM. I have re-installed the Altiris Client, disable the auto file repair and still these computer reboot. Can anyone help me or explain why this would happen and direct me to a solution.

    Thanks for you help...

    Hello Dan,
Can you check the Altiris Agent logs on the systems to see what executed at 3am?

    Cheers,

    Jim

We are also having this problem where our servers are booting outside the maintenance window. I would be interested in a solution

    Hello chi.li,

There wasn't any follow-up to the original post, and we would need more information to help you. Can you provide the Altiris solution (patch, software delivery, etc) which is causing the reboot?

    Cheers,

    Jim

    hi Jim,
We are using NS 6.5 console, NS 6.0 SP3 R8. The Task Management portion of the console "Power Control" task is what we are using for Forced Restarts. The agents do not respond. Restarting the Altiris Agent from NS do not work nor does requesting a Configuration update. The only way is to locally restart the Altiris Agent. But that defeats the whole purpose

That description doesn't really line up with your first post. You mentioned machines rebooting outside of a maintenance window, no?

actually it does, if the machines don't boot during the scheduled time. Afterwards should a user logs in outside the maint window or they are troubleshooting the agent by restarting the service or selecting update configuration, then agent suddenly picks up whatever task were scheduled and bounces. We don't want that, especially Production. During the week, we patch these boxes without reboots, but they can't patch if the agent is not working.
