Receiving Consumables, Services or Peripherals

I'm currently reviewing the Receiving Process in Altiris and would like to receive a service (for example, a hardware provider barcoding a computer prior to arrival), then receive this service as a Cost Item with the computer asset.

Another example, would be to receive a printer cartridge, and have it appear in the Cost Item table within the Printer Asset.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide me with this.

need a PO with Catalog items

Hi there. You will need to create your catalog items (fixed, software and consumables) first.

Once you have your PO created with your catalog items noted in the PO Line Items, you can right click on the PO and choose Receive Items. You can choose to receive all or receive selected.

You have 3 options when you receive these resources. You can create a new resource, udpate an existing resource/add the consumable to a stockroom, or add as a cost item to an existing resource.

I would say the printer cartridge would be to "add as a cost item to an existing resource."

Good luck...

Many thanks.

Many thanks for your advice. I also uncovered a couple of things in the process you might like to know...

1. Due to a current error with the Receiving Process, you need to Invoice on the PO first, then Receive off the Invoice (more in KB article 39319).

2. While the consumable does then show under the Asset, there is very few details brought through (no description, no PO association, etc). Not sure why these fields are blank? Makes it very difficult to report on later.

Thanks for your help.
