    Posted Apr 23, 2009 04:15 AM
    Hello,

We have a small business with 5 laptops and a server (Windows server 2003) . The server does not run a mail server as this is provided externally.

Is Enpoint a good solution for us or is there any other products that are better suited?

    Thanks in advance

SEP 11.0 MR4 is definitely a good solution for your environment for desktop level of protection. However, you should have also Gateway level of protection using Firewall and UTM kinds of things. Also update the Windows pathches regularly.

If the email provider also filters out the emails. Then there is an SEP for SMB. Check out the Symantec site and download some fact sheets. You basically need an AV, AntiSpyware, a firewall (if the laptops is ever used outside the office or if you don't have one) and Outlook extensions for the mail.

SEP is leading the market not in market shares but also by product features.

It is really a good one for SMB users.

You can wait for SEP 12 to release as it must have some advanced features than SEP 11.

Thanks a lot for all these quick responses. I am almost convinced that this will be a good solution. I just wonder about the principles of Enpoint.

Is there any form of client/server communication between the SEP on the desktops/laptops and the SEP on the server? I think I read something about a management server?

We use out laptops 50/50 in our office and by our customers and therefor want a stand alone solution for the laptops.

Symantec is coming out with a lightweight version of 11 MR4, i.e. SB12.  Both versions will allow you to setup a management server from where you can push out definitions to all clients as well as controls policies such as scan policies, exclusions, network threat protection, firewlal policies etc...

For the laptops enable Liveupdate option for users so that they can connect to the internet and download defs. whilst on the network the managed server will push out the defs to the clients
