Under CMDB configuration, Altiris 7.1 Planning & Implementation Guide says "We recommend that you set the ASP Script timeout value in Microsoft IIS to a value equal to or greater than the command timeout value ."  It looks like my IIS ASP script timeout value is 1:30 minutes whereas my CMDB command timeout is 1600 seconds (26:40 minutes).  Unless I'm looking at the wrong properties in IIS, doesn't setting the ASP script timeout to, say, 27 minutes a bit excessive?  Thanks!

The default ASP Script timeout is 90 seconds and the default command timeout is 30 seconds, so you shouldn't have to touch anything.  But you see 1600 seconds?  Where are you viewing the CMDB command timeout of 1600 seconds?

I see a Command Timeout of 1600 seconds from fresh installs on both my test VM and production/physical box right in the SMC under Settings->Notification Server->Database Settings.  With the imposed ASP script timeout of 90 seconds in IIS and a 1600 CMDB command timeout, I'm guessing any SQL queries will bomb should they exceed 90 secs.

FYI: In comparison, my Altiris 6.x server has a command timeout of 600 secs which in my opinion is also an excessive value.  However, won't matter if IIS ASP script timeout will ultimately determine how long a query runs.

ASP will cut it short if the ASP timeout is 90 seconds and the SQL timeout is 1600 seconds.  You could cut down the SQL timeout length to 85 seconds, but it would probably impact maintenance tasks and back-end things that are not exposed to ASP.
