Recording media server config before uninstalling

Created: 14 Nov 2012 | 5 comments

Im going to uninstall Netbackup 6.5 server as part of upgrade some Solaris meda servers to 7.* and am trying to ensure I record all relevant config to ensure it is re-applied correctly after installing 7.*.

Right now I can only think of the following:

  • The client/server names (bp.conf)
  • Any exclude lists
  • Any pre and post scripts
  • Buffer configuration files

I can't think of anything else but would appreciate if you can think of anything else you think I should capture.

Why don't you upgrade the media servers to 7.x directly ?

I you are removing the media server completely make sure you use nbdecomission first

nbsu -c -t does at very good job at collecting information - Maybe worth a try ?

I would suggest to add the following to your'e list:

Output from tpconfig -d

Update: Or do you mean 6.5 clients ?

In that case I can think of:
touch files

Assumption is the mother of all mess ups.

If this post answered your'e qustion -  Please mark as a soloution.

Hi Nicolai,

Thanks for you response.

Upgrading Solaris servers from 6.5 to 7.* requires the removal of all 6.5 NBU pacakages beforehand.

Theres servers are enterprise clients (So as you know, media servers that only backup themselves)

I will be deactivating the media server within Netbackup first and then post uninstall of 6.5 and install of 7.0  run a divice scan wizard to repopulate tpconfig after which I will re-activate the media server within Netbackup.

Does that make sense ?

You can install 7.x as an upgrade from 6.5.x. NetBackup install will remove the package but it asks you if you are removing as part of an upgrade, in which case you specify that you are, then it keeps all the usual configuration and installs the binaries as necessary.

as revaroo says

- For Solaris servers only, remove the “6.x versions of all add-on products” and database agents
(The script also offers to remove these earlier versions for you and Symantec recommends this method)
