Recover Online HotCatalog asking extra paths also
I am using Verias Netbackup 6.5 with Win2003 Server
At my primary site i have an online Hot Catalog policy which is taking the backup on tape cartrige. This backup of Catalog is the primary copy. i also have configured multiple copy of this Online Hot Catalog backup which is taking the backup on Disk Storage Unit (DSU) as a second copy. The DSU is on a hard disk drive who's drive letter is ''L''.
i also have another Veritas Netbackup Server with same configuration at my DR site. i tried to restore my Online Hot Catalog backup from the Tape Cartrige (from Recover the Catalog wizard). After supply the DR file, the wizard is saying me the ''L'' drive is missing(as i said that ''L'' drive on primary site has a second copy of Online Hot Catalog backup)
1.) Why its asking me to supply the ''L'' Drive? although i want to restore/recover my Online Hot Catalog from the tape
2.) is it not possible that we can take multiple copies of Online Hot Catalog backup ?
3.) How can i restore the Online Hot Catalog backup without supplying the 'L' Drive?
Any ouput will be appriciated

Haseeb,

The Media(tape cartrige) has
1st of all thanks for your kind reply....
The Media(tape cartrige) has the primary backup copy of catalog and that backup of catalog i have taken from my primary site and from this media(tape cartrige) i am trying to restore the catalog on the DR...
Yes there is a Catalog on L drive but this is the 2nd copy of Catalog.
As i have already said that i have one policy which is taking the backup of catalog at two places. first backup is on tape and 2nd backup is on DSU, and the DSU is located on L drive...
i am taking the backup of Online Hot Catalog on tape as its 1st copy and on L drive as well as the secondary copy

I found following procedure
I found following procedure in my documents i hope this would give you some good idea about it.
secondly this document may also be helpful for for
Procedure:
You can very well restore HOT catalog backup to your DR systems. Provided ensure the following points:
1. Hardware whould be exactly the same in DR and production
2. Dosent matter how many media servers you have, even single master server can do the job for you.
3. Install netbackup in the DR site with all proper license that of production.
4. Have the OS configured with same system parameter of that of production
5. Ensure the DR site master server sees tape drives. Ensure the same tape drives are installed in DR as of production
6. Now take the hot netbackup catalog backup in production
7. Once you verify you have your system ready with tape drives and netbackup install in the DR then
8. Load the catalog backup tape to the tape library or in the drvie which is seen by DR master server
9. Install the JAVA GUI in the DR site
10. Login to JAVA GUI, and on the right pane click on catalog recovery.
11. This will prompt you for restoring the catalog backup taken in production.
12. When you took the catalog backup ata production site you would have noted that it creates a DR file after successful completion of backup. You have that DR file copied to your CD or DVD or thumb drive
13. Now in the catalog backup window in DR site it will prompt you to give the location of the DR file which you took from production.
14. You have to copy that DR file before starting the catalog backup in the DR master server somewhere and make a note of the location of DR file and give the location in point 13.
15. As recommended by symantec restore the entire catalog.
16. Now the catalog restore will go and search the tape you have inserted to the DR library connected to the master server. Emsure you have inventories the library so that the tape is recognised by netbackup.
17. Set the barcode rule for the tape to read the lable correctly
18. Once you do point 17 and 18, point 15 will start successfully to restore the entire catalog
19. Once the catalog is recovered you will now have the production recovered to DR site. It means that all your device configuration in DR has overwritten by production site.
20. You have to run the device configuration wizard again to recognize the DR devices.
21. Once done you will have DR devices seen and all the policies seen of production.
22. Ensure the db/class folder is renamed because all the scueduled backups will start to run and fail.
23. Netbackup catalog recovery is now completed and you are ready to restore the oracle backups taken from production site.
24. Ensure the oracle backup tapes are there in DR site.

Ahh Had the same
Ahh
Had the same problem
your file look at it.
Lots of L's in it, in my case I had lots of /data_bla_bla paths, I made a soft link to fix it, and the restore worked fine, If I recall you can modify the file too, but I found it faster to make a soft link (UNIX stuff) to the directoy its looking for. I later made the same directory on the new server and copied the data to that directory , restores went off without a hitch.
1.) How do i can copy the
1.) How do i can copy the data to the new server's folder? if let suppose the primary server is down
I dont know why its asking the "L" drive path. what my thinking is that if i take the catalog backup on to tape cartrige only then the second copy information will not be write on the DR file and the recovery wizard will not ask the another path as in my case i was taken the second copy of backup was at "L" drive

i would like to share one
i would like to share one this Zippy
i actually make a duplicated tape from the primary tape and send that tape to the DR site. but i have noticed which is what unfortunately i am not able to restore the catalog from the duplicated backup. it might be the bug of Netbackup. So i stop duplication of Catalog backup for the off-site because there is no benifit to make the duplicate of Catalog backup
Second thing is:-
1st scenerio:-
At my primary site i have an online Hot Catalog policy which is taking the backup on tape cartrige.
Resolved:-
i resolved it , actually i removed the entries of L drive from the DR file and the Recovery of catalog was successfull but this all exercize successful when i do this from the primary copy.
How do i removed the lines see the below picture, the lines which i removed are highlighted with blue:-

2nd scenrerio:-
if the scenerio is that the primary copy is SAN and second copy is tape cartrige and i tried to restore the cataog from the 2nd copy and even i removed the the entries of 1st copy from the DR file it keeps asking me the L drive which is actually the DSU which keeps the primary copy of Catalog backup(of course i made the secondary copy promoted as the Primary copy)
