Recovering data from a PGP Encrypted Drive

  • 1.  Recovering data from a PGP Encrypted Drive

    Posted Aug 14, 2015 05:42 AM

    Hello,

I have a drive that was encrypted with Symantec Drive Encryption 10.3.2 (BUILD 15337) and I can't access it now and I try to recover data from a PC that doesn't have PGP installed.

I tried to download use a Recovery USB Drive and follow the guide step-by-step as mentioned in:

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH214380.html

    https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.HOWTO85018.html

But the file is less than 1MB!. the bootable USB doesn't work.

I tried to use other tools like USB Boutable rufus_v1.3.2 but didn't work too.

    My questions are:

    1. Is the Recovery CD/USB 1MB capacity only?
    2. Is there a like where we can donwload the Windows Recovery PE (like versions previous to 8 from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/products/symantec_endpoint_encryption/guardian_edge_files/ )?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Bennouna,

Windows Recovery disk was for Symantec Endpoint Encryption product the current you are using is  Symantec Drive Encryption.

The recovery disk is around 1 MB and it does works fine, and once you download it, create a bootable USB to access the disk.

However if you install Symantec Drive Encryption 10.3.2 on other machine and salve the encrypted drive to this machine, the decryption process with be faster.
