Recovery Solution 7.0 Home Page question

There is a Recovery Solution "Best Practices" KB article (KB47687) that shows a nice dashboard on page 7.   My question is, does anybody actually see this page when they open their management console and select Home/Recovery Home?  What I see is a mostly empty right hand panel with just a Recovery Solution header and an "Edit" button.  If I click the edit button, I can select from several "web parts", but none of them are the pie charts and graphs shown in the KB article.  Was this functionality removed before the product was released, or did my upgrade fail in some way?

re: Recovery Solution 7.0 Home Page question

The Homepage on my installation shows the Dashboard as depicted in KB47687.  Are you viewing it logged in as the Appid or as another user?  You may need to look at the permissions or scoping of the ID accessing the Recovery Homepage if you are able to see it locally on the NS logged in as the Appid. What happens when you access it as the App ID or a member of Symantec Administrators?

I'm logged in as myself, and

I'm logged in as myself, and my id is both a domain admin and a member of the local Symantec Administrators group.

re: Recovery Solution 7.0 Home Page question

Ok, so it could be a couple of thiings but I would start with IE configuration.  Verify or set the following:

1. Website being accessed is in Trusted Sites
2. In Trusted Sites - Custom Level - ensure that the logon option is "Automatic Logon with current username and password"

Also look for any error icons on the left end of the status bar in IE that could indicate a component failing to load.

If all of that is clean you can try a repair of the solution from the SIM but I can not confirm what that would do to any configuration you may have done.  Also could you post a screenshot?

What happens when you select

What happens when you select one of the webparts in the Recovery Solution folder?  Do you see any errors in the any logs?  You should be able to see configuration options for the webpart.

Finally, an error message

Using the Altiris Log Viewer, I see the following error when the RS "Home" page is opened.

The web part 'Basic Recovery Server Statistics (708dac06-5c11-4b45-b1a2-f508572a8aad)' is hidden from the Portal View as its required product 'b63dca51-fa58-4c0c-b0ef-11d7cbc97934' is not installed.

There are errors for each web part., where have I gone wrong?

Altiris Reporting is not installed correctly

That GUID links to Altiris Reporting which is installed with the NS core and is updated with various service packs.   If other reports work fine then there is most likely an issue with the  Recovery Solution install.   Otherwise, you will need to repair the reporting component and any servicepacks. The KB article  The "Users with Administration Rights" webpart report fails to run (48776)  is a similar issue but relates to reports imported from NS 6.0.  Do other reports or webparts run properly?

Time to call support

Since this issue is occuring on all (12) of my RS servers, I'm going to call support and see if they have any ideas.   Thanks for your assistance.

RS is still alive!

Fede,
RS is still a supported product and has a roadmap going forward, on the client/workstation side.   For more information, see AKB 46944 (note this loads an embedded PDF file) and AKB 35556 (also a PDF) for details about RS future.  As I understand it, RS has been end-of-lifed on the server platform, and I believe you can trade in any RS for Servers licenses you have for BESR licenses.  Contact your Altiris/Symantec sales rep for details, or sales@altiris.com

There has been some talk of a new product that will combine many of the features of RS, BESR, and BESR/DLO into a new backup product for clients/workstations, but last I heard that was due late 2010 at best.

Thanks,
Kyle
