    Hello all

We have a client with a  old server running Microsoft SBS 2003 Server with SEPM 11.0.4

Based on my research I found that its safe to remove the temp files mentioned on the following KB

    https://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH98416

On this server the folders with the name tmp*.tmp are almost empty but there are other folders as per the attached screenshot (Refer screenshot-1)

Is it safe to remove these additional folders?

Also is it safe to remove the contents under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs ? Please refer screenshot-2.

    Thanks

    Dhanushka

The SEPM version you're running is quite old. Have you thought about upgrading?

How many content revisions are you currently keeping?

    Hello,

You are running an old version of SEP 11.0.4000 which was released in Dec 2008.

    Check this Article:

    https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/what-are-symantec-endpoint-protection-sep-versions-released-officialy

I would request you to please Migrate the SEPM to the version of SEP 11.0.7000 and later to the Latest version of SEP 11.0.7300.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi Brian

Yes we know that but this client will be moved from a physical server toa virtual server within the next 2-3 months and we have plans of upgrading the installation once this is done.

Also on this server the system partition is 15 GB (Yes I know) and the dirve size has gone down to less than 100MB.

So we want to gain some disk space and if the contents with those mentioned files can be removed it would be a great help.

They're tmp files so I believe they can be but you may want to verify with support first.

    Hello,

As a workaround, I would suggest you to work on the steps provided in the articles below:

Low Disk Space issues encountered on systems running either the Symantec Endpoint Protection client or the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH153952

Symantec Endpoint Protection virus definition folder consumes a large amount of disk space

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH102927

    Hope that helps!!

    Hello,

Do not remove the binhub and .001 and .002 and follow the steps provided in the article above.

These steps would assist you to provide enough space to migrate the SEP client to the Latest version.

    Only remove the tmp files

Removed the temp files but did not clear much of data

SEPM is installed on a different partition so apart from the mentioned folders the only other folder contains a large number of data is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\Downloads

Is it safe to remove the contents of the above folder?

    Thanks

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

If you deleted data from downloads folder it will get repopulated again after next liveupdate.

What's the total disk space used by Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager folder?

I think you should think of other alternatives to create some more disk space.

    Hi Chetan

SEP Manager folder is located in a differnet partition, not the system partition which is low on disk space. The folders mentioned above are the only symantec related folder located on the system disk.

Will keep removing as much as possible tem files for the next few weeks since this server will be converted into a virtual server soon.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the update.

In that case you are left with very limited option.

In case SEP is installed on System drive then you can uninstall it and reinstall on another drive.

If all the clients are on same LAN segment then can reduce the number of revisions to keep by Manager. By default it keeps 3 revision. You can change it to 2 or 1. But make sure clients are receiving definitions immediately.

    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH92225

If possible go with third party tools to extend System drive disk space.
