I am looking for a brief explanation of the difference between installing the Remote Agent on another computer vs. using Remote Desktop from another computer to access the Backup Exec Server?

They have nothing to do with each other. THe Remote Agent for Windows is required to allow a media server to communicate with a remote server and back it up. It has nothing to do with remoting into a server like RDP.

With a RAWS agent, you won't be able to backup a server.
