Remote Agent for Windows installation fails

Created: 31 May 2008 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 5 comments

I am upgrading from v11 to v12.  Server installation went fine.  When I attempt to install the remote agent for windows on a machine running Windows XP Pro SP2, setup runs through most of the process but eventually displays a "rollback" message and terminates with a failure notice.  No software was installed.
My first attempt was to upgrade the existing remote agent (v11).  I later tried removing the v11 remote agent before installing v12 - with the same result.  The command line silent install processes for several minutes, terminates without a message but does not install software.

The v11 agent can be re-installed and does function properly, however all backups "complete with exceptions".

What can I do to install the v12 remote agent?

Thanks

Have you checked the application log for installation errors?  If errors are present, what event ID are you getting and what is the source and message.

Under the RAWS 32 folder you would find setup.exe ... try tunning it and see what error do you get.

I can't find an installation log.  The rollback seems to remove everything. What would the name of the log file be?

Found the installation log.  The last two lines are
06-03-2008,12:05:50 : A fatal error occurred during installation on server 'JGARRETT'.
06-03-2008,12:05:50 : ERROR: Installation failed with error 1603.

It looks like the failure occured at this point in the log:
06-03-2008,12:05:44 : Removing system registry values
06-03-2008,12:05:45 : Removing ODBC components

Any clues?
