Remote Push not working on SEPM 11.x
Created: 21 Nov 2012 | 17 comments
I recently migrated my SEPM 11.x from one server to another. Everything seemed to migrate ok, clients are getting updates, reports are running ok etc, etc...
The one problem I seem to have is remote push. Whenever i try to push an install out to a client I am just getting a Failed notiifcation. I can manually export the client and install onto the host machine and this then links to the SEPM but I need to get the remote push feature working again. This worked before migration so not sure if there is a setting or feature i have missed or not enabled
Firewall is turned off on the clients and correct usernames and passwords are being used.
SEPM is running on a Server 2008 R2
Install Package is 11.0.7
Client is Win 7 64bit
Any Ideas on This?

can you check the client log for failed install?
Cheers!

Hello,
Prepare the Windows 7 machines for remote deployment by following the steps below:
Prepare Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7 computers: Windows User Access Control blocks local administrative accounts from remotely accessing remote administrative shares such as C$ and Admin$.
Perform the following tasks:
■ Disable the File Sharing Wizard.
■ Enable network discovery by using the Network and Sharing Center.
■ Enable the built-in administrator account and assign a password to the account.
■ Verify that the account has administrator privileges.

There isnt any failed logs in the client log.
The account is already an admin account with a password set up.
Remote push worked perfectly before migration so i think it must be something to do with some setting or communication issue.
Check the %temp% directory for a file called SEP_INST.log. Open it up in notepad and search for "return value 3"
Copy and paste 20-25 lines above it here for review.
SEP Knowledge Base
Endpoint SWAT
Tried install on another pc but get the same failed message.
Looked in the temp folder but there isnt a SEP_INST.log.
manager doesnt seem to be communicating with the pc
There isnt any "retun value 3" txt in there just "return Value 1"
I will try on another machine and post results
have you tried this on windows 7 / 2008
go Organise tab in windows explorer >folder and search option >view >uncheck simple file sharing .
is push successful now? I hope UAC is disabled now

Using Windows 7 client and Server 2008. there isnt any Uncheck file sharing option in that destination.
Just an option for Sharing wizard
UAC is turned on, but the account is administrator. Never had to do this before i migrated to new server so cant understand what difference this would make
on win7 machine, can you check the Environment Variables
just try disabling uac and check once.

I have turned off UAC but problem is still there?
Any Ideas?
Sounds like everything was working before, and now it is not, and nothing else has changed that you know of (meaning, Remote Push has worked in the past from this same SEPM to this same SEP client, and no new appliances/switches/etc have been introduced that would be interfering with communication).
What is the exact text of the failed notification that displays?

The failed notification simply says failed on the SEPM.
I enter the Client details - Ip address, username, password, domain and the pc is found and displays all the right details.
I select my client package, the features i want and the group the client is to go into and then click on "Start Installation"
I get the message " Installing the client software on unmanged computers. This may take several minutes please wait"
Around 30-40 seconds later i get a Failed Icon at the side of the client i selected.
So is it failing on all client computers, or only on Windows 7 / Windows Server 2008? If it is only Windows 7 / Server 2008, is there anything in the firewall logs on those two OSes?

Ive just tested on a windows XP client and it seems to be working fine so it seems the problems is with windows 7 clients.
Firewall is disabled on windows 7 pc's so shouldnt be affecting install
