  • 1.  Remote Site-Server does not receive policy

    Good day all,

I have been fighting an issue with one of our overseas site-servers.  Lately, imaging and deployments from this site-server have been failing.  It seemed that things would work for a short time after I restarted the server, but by the time the local users came online, scheduled deployments would not complete.  After backing up all of my package deployments, DX database and deployment image files, I completely removed all Altiris agents via the AeXAgentUtil.exe /clean.  After further cleanup in the console (removing site, reassigning subnets to another server, and deleting the computer resource) I reinstalled the agent.  Once the base agent was installed and a resource GUID assigned, I verified that a new computer resource was generated and inventory data was being received by the NS server.  I left it over the weekend in order for all sub-agents to install.  While the Configuration requested date/time would change, it never received any policies or sub-agents.  When I ran the Agent Diagnostics and reviewed the logs, there were a series of errors related to HTTP.  I was not able to restart the NS server due to change-management restrictions in place, but cycled all services on the NS server.  The remote agent then connected and pulled down all sub-agents and I was able to configure the site-server and restore all of my saved data.  During an upgrade to WinPE4 I again experienced problems pulling down policy from the NS server.  I captured a screenshot of the remote agent log file and compared it to the errors this morning; they are identical.  While I engage our netwoking team to look at possible routing issues, although there is no delay in my RDP session to the site-server or another VM client on the same host, I thought I would put this up looking for other possible solutions.

    Environment:

    CMS 7.1 SP2 MP4

    Windows Server 2008 R2

    Any ideas would be welcome.

    Regards

    Patrick

Ok, I built a second site server using the Windows 7 VM that was working properly but now have run into problems with this install.  Everything was going fine unitl I started copying deployment packages from the standard site server to this test one.  Now it will not pick up configuration changes and will not verify the integrity of the packages that I moved over just like the original install.  Before moving pacakages, I did install IIS and was able to install site server components.  Once core components were installed, I stopped my agent and moved my deployment packages and images off the previous site server and onto this.  Somewhere in the process, the new site server stopped communicating with the NS server.

I am open to all suggestions.

    Regards

    Patrick

Issue was related to networking misconfiguration.
