  • 1.  Remove from Organizational Groups

CMS7.1 has a default task to add a system to an organizational group.

I want a task to remove it from an organizational group.

I'm managing my SSR via an org group.  It would be great when i move an asset from active to retired if i had a process that cleaned up the SSR processes.  I work for a University, and we often move systems from user to user.  We do not backup every user, only VIP's.  I currently deploy SSR via an org group.  If I take a VIP system out of service with the intent to re-allocate it, i make the status "retired".  I have a job that runs every night to move any newly retired systems to my stock room.  I can then run a report of everything i have in stock.  The problem is, that this system still has files backed up to the SSR share, and is in the org group to have ssr installed.  The next time it hits the network it will automatically install the SSR agent.  Since i don't have space to backup all 7000 systems on campus, i want a process that will delete backups, and remove the asset from this group when we retire it.

Does anyone have a job or better process for handling this setup?

Where do you move items when they shouldn't be in the SSR organizational group?  Your automation policy should move them to that group in addition to changing the asset status to In Stock.

The systems that i want to have SSR installed on, are not moved to a specific org group.  I move them to an org view.  Since i have systems in org groups based on which building they are in, and i have systems from every building that need to be in the SSR view, i figured a ssr org view would be the best way to handle SSR.

When i move an item to stock, it does pull them from the org groups, but not an existing org views.

Is there a way to pull it from that org view, or do i have to create an org group under each building for SSR?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've changed the way I apply SSR.

I have my campus divided by buildings.  Each building is auto populated with systems based on subnet.  I've created a group within each building called building SSR, created a policy that pushes the SSR agent to these systems.  The SSR agent takes care of pulling the applicatoin and policy.  When I move an asset to stock, it will remove it from this location and fix my issue of having to worry about this system getting ssr the next time its deployed.

Now i have to figure out how to have the stock item process auto delete the files from ssr, and remove the notion of ssr in reporting.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

So you're wanting to use Altiris to tell the SSR server to delete the files for the computer that was retired and is no longer a VIP computer requiring SSR?  What's the unique identifier that you could pass to SSR?  I imagine this will need to happen in SSR.
