Removed exchange completely from domain, but still access archives

I have older exchange archives in a legacy domain that are still accesed by users (not frequently though). I want to remove ALL of the exchange servers from the legacy domain since users are no longer in it, but still need users to be able to access the arcives.
Is this possible? If so how?
