  • 1.  Replacing a broken Anti-Virus server

    Posted Jan 29, 2010 11:28 AM
In my new job I inherited a Win2K server "running" SEP 11.02, though it still updates the clients many of the features are unavailable.
I have no client list, I tried pushing a client install to a new computer and it failed. TThe W2K server's drive is full and I want to replace the old hardware anyway.
The database is corrupt! What is the best way to install a new server with version 11.5 and not get into more problems than I have now.
The new server is W2K3 running in a virtual environment (VSphere)
    Thanks...Xzeppelin

You can reconnect your clients using sylink to your new management server
take a sylink file and bring all your clients to your new management server once you see them inside sepm.

the pdf file will help you out

upgrade them to MU5 using the upgrade groups with package feature.

    Upgrading clients by using AutoUpgrade

this should be the exact case what we are having here

How to point Symantec Endpoint Protection(SEP) clients to a new Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager after you have either uninstalled, are going to decommission or replace the Existing Primary Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).

    Thanks Rafeeq...
I am going to back up what I can from the old server. Should I back up the keystore file and the server.xml file from the old server or will the new one create its own?
When looking in the client groups on the old server I can only find 4 clients though there are approx 150 client installs out there. (Previous Admin error??? or data base corruption....I don't know).

By the way...an inplace upgrade on the old server failed. It wanted over 4GB of space and I had less than 2Gb available.

if there are 4 clients might be previous admin error, yes you need those backups but 4 clients ???? can be negotiable.
i would like you to start everything fresh the previous had just 4 clients. use sylink drop to get all your clients which already have MR4 installed. once they are in new sepm we can upgrade them using autopgrade.
