Is it possible to replicate two SEPM (12.1RU4) using two different SQL Server. Does it matter? Scenario

SEPM A - 12.1 RU4 - SQL Server 2005 SP4
SEPM B - 12.1 RU4 - SQL Server 2012

thanks

Replication and considerations

Should be OK to do this as SQL versions shouldn't matter. SEPMs need to be same versions though.

SEPM have to be on same version.

you can replicate between different version of SQL or between SQL or embedded.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the article and helpful information. I asked this question because Symantec Support informed me that my SQL server on the two SEPM server should be on the same version. Another question about replication.. Is it one way only.. I mean if SEPM A is my main and SEPM B is a newly installed and I will do replication.SEPM A will replicate to SEPM B right? and there's no way that my SEPM B will be replicated to my SEPM A

AFAIK, they can be different versions.

Yes, you can configure as such

the sql can be on different versions, only requirement is to have SEPM running on same version.

yes the replication are two way however logs, content and packages can be set one way.

check this link

The Philosophy of SEPM Replication Setup:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH93107

Policies, clients, and groups always get replicated. Logs ("Replicate logs from the local site to this partner site"), and packages and definitions ("Replicate client packages and LiveUpdate content between the local site and the partner site") are optional. Also the initial replication will replicate the entire database, and then subsequent replications will only replicate changed data based on the USN number in the database and the items selected.

Hi Rinoa21,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

I would be glad to answer your query.

SQL 2005 SP4 and SQL 2012 is listed under SEP 12.1 RU4 System requirements.

There will be no issue when replicating with SQL 2005 SP4 and 2012. Only the managers need to be on the same build version.

Refer these threads:

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/replication-site-different-sql-version

http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/replication-between-sql-2005-and-sql-2008

The changes that you make on any partner are duplicated to all other partners. For example, you may want to set up one site at your main office (site 1) and a second site (site 2). Site 2 is a partner to site 1. The databases on site 1 and site 2 are reconciled by using the replication schedule. If a change is made on site 1, it automatically appears on site 2 after replication occurs. If a change is made on site 2, it automatically appears on site 1 after replication occurs. You can also install a third site (site 3) that can replicate data from either site 1 or site 2.
