Hi Team,
Can you please let me know the minimum bandwidth require Primary server to provide definition update and poll all logs from secondary server and also for the clients to take updates.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Please take a look at the parameters for bandwidth utilization for SEP:
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h...
Primary server pushes approximately 40 MB+ of data to the secondary server.
You can also refer to the following link so that you can increase the number of definitions kept at the primary server. So, when a client requests for updates, the server will always provide delta definitions instead of a full.zip package.

Re
Hi Aniket,
Thanks for your comments.
But I need Bandwidth utlization for SAV ( Symantec Antivirus 10x. )
What is the minimum bandwidth requires primary to secondary server at location.

Band width utilization
Bandwidth utilization depends on multiple factors...
-Number of clients under that link.....
If you have more client connected to one link than bandwidth utilization may be high..
-Updation date on the clients.....
If all the clients has latest update then total update size is very less. There will not be any issue with bandwidth..
I think we cant tell exactly how much bandwidth is required for Antivirus update(NO benchmark),
Server can update clients connected via any link(Speed)... Lower the Link speed higher the time taken for downloading the update...
Refer these links...
You can limit the threads per subnet.. By doing this you can have little control over the bandwidth for one subnet(Link).
As Aniket mentioned increasing number of VDB files on the server is a very good idea. and it works very well...

You can calculate the time
You can calculate the time taken for pushing the update from one server to other on different links and come to a conclusion.
___________________________________________________________
for ex:-
How long will it take to transfer a 40000 KB file over a 64 Kbps connection?
Step 1 - Convert the file size from kilobytes to kilobits:
40000 KB = (40000 x 8) Kb = 320000 Kb
Step 2 - Divide the file size by the connection speed:
320000 Kb / 64 Kbps = 5000 seconds = 83Min
So a 40MB file will take 83Mins to download over a 64 Kbps connection.
____________________________________________________________
If you have 128Kbps it may take half time.... and so on..
If you want quicker update have more bandwidth...

Re
You both are given me time required for updation but I want minimum bandwidth reqd for updation SAV10x.
I am facing problem fot AV updation at remote location, First it was 64 KB, now they have allowed only 24 KB for many applications including AV. Since then AV is not geting updated.

First...
Try to upgrade the product(SEP RU5)..... It will solve all ur problems....
Otherwise
Remove all secondary servers . Group the clients based on subnet or branch...
and configure update clients by netorsubnet and more VDB updates as mentioned
in the document...
Only one client from a branch/Subnet will update at a time
and there will not be any problem on bandwidth utilization.
After that you update all the client in the group(If number
of client are less or lot of pc's are
having old updates manual installation/updation is better).
Once all the pc's are having latest updates you can also
remove the QOS (QOS is a burden on router removing that will increase the performance
or router.) because incremental updates are very small.

Re
Srinivas,
I know SEP will solve this issue but now our customer is not ready for upgradation because most of the system configuaration are very low.
That is why they are still using SAV 10x.
They only wanted to know the mininum requirement bandwidth for updating secondary server or client wheter it is 64, 128 or 256 Kbps.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Regards, M.R
Navigate to and find
Navigate to and find C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate
PREFERENCES\INTERNET_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=45
PREFERENCES\INTERNET_READ_DATA_TIMEOUT=45
Chgane this too
PREFERENCES\INTERNET_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=300
PREFERENCES\INTERNET_READ_DATA_TIMEOUT=300
Then try to run the liveupdate

Re
Prachand,
I dont want to troubleshoot the issue now, the only thing is I am facing problem fot AV updation at remote location, First it was 64 Kbps link and they have allowed only 24 Kbps for many applications including AV.
And we suggested him to increace the bandwidth link to 256 Kbps between primary and secondary server for proper updation,
So they asking us for what is the minimum required bandwidth.
Regards, M.R
Ok thats fine....
Ok thats fine....
I think its sufficient... In a 256 Kbps like server to server update will be fast(less than 25 min)...
We had one setup of 9 sec servers(256 Kbps links).. and 500 clients each(128 or 64Kbps branch links).
We used to get at lest 50% updation by afternoon....

One more thing...
One more thing...
For the question....
what is the minimum required bandwidth?......
Based on my observation.... it difficult to recommend customer for higher bandwidth... even if you have 256 kbps bandwidth, issues may occur..(in ur case QOS may solve the problem, but it reduces the updation rate).
Many customer run different network application and preference is given to their application...
If we recommend them to upgrade to higher bandwidth for the reason of AV their primary question will be "Why i have to go for higher bandwidth just for AV when my application works with less bandwidth".
For that reason first we have to explain them what is the updation method and how server and clients are updated...? Why AV Uses high bandwidth...?
Full bandwidth is not utilized all the time..
Utilization goes higher in few scenarios like client switched off for long time, fresh installation, Updation corruptions, Re-installation of AV, etc...
