  • 1.  Rescue disk for SEE 8.2.1 MP3

    Hello,

    I am a client user of SEE 8.2.1. MP3.

My SSD is a Micron SED.

The whole disk is encrypted and I know the password to by-pass the CTRL-Alt-Del logon window.

I need to find a way to re-format the drive since the data on it is corrupted somehow. I cannot format the drive since it is a SED SSD.

Is there a rescue disk for SEE 8.2.1. MP3 or something similar which will let me delete the partitions and reformat the drive?

    Again, I know the password!

    Thanks,

    Julian

Looking at the version you mentioned, it seems that you are using Symantec Endpiont Encryption Full disk. We have disk like recovery and access utility (ISO). Recovery disk is used to decrypt the drive and access disk is to back up your data. Its a WinPE customized disk.

    No Boot Situation : -

User Access Utility ISO and burn it in a CD\DVD, boot from it and backup the data. Burn the Recovery ISO into a CD\DVD and boot from it to perform decrypt.

If you are able to boot to the OS : -

Login to the SEFD client console, select the partion you want to decrypt. Once the decrypt is done, you may format the partiton.

You will find both the 'Recovery disk' & 'Access disk' ISO on the same file that you downloaded, which is SEE 8.2.1. MP3.

Note : Please ensure to back the DATA.

Hello and thank you for your response.

I am in a "no boot" situation, so I would only need the recovery disk ISO because I have back-up the data just prior to the corruption. I'm only trying to reformat the SSD so I could use it once again for a fresh OS deployment.

I dont' have that ISO file anywhere in the installation folder. Could you please point me to the right ISO file?

    Thanks again,

As an end user, it's normally recommended that you involve your IT guys in this procedure, as they should have access to the original installation media, which includes the Access and Recovery disk images.  See recovery best practices from Symantec below:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH104300

That said, it's possible to get a hold of the Full Disk Access Utility (via Symantec Support) and create your own bootable WinPE disk as per the below docs:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH104071
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH164116

As you only need to get the data off before reformatting, then the Access utility/disk should be all you need.  The Recovery disk is usually only used for a forced decryption.
