This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

We have a EV Server in Datacenter 1.

We would want to have a second standby EV Server in Datacenter 2.

Please suggest few options and then best way to achieve this.

Many Thanks

Hello EV007,

Check the Administrator guide, the Building Block chapter.

Very highlevel:

EV01 in DC1, EV02 in DC2. both EV01 and EV02 in same site. EV02 not running services, except Admin and Directory.

you need to make sure that data (indexes/storage/SQL) is replicated to DC02. If possible, use same driveletters/foldernames

When DR happens, switch DNS aliasses for servers. Update SQL databases (on DC2), and EV02 to point to correct (DC2) sql server. (SQL update for PartitionRootPath, and indexlocations)

In EV console on DC2, run USL (update service location). This will configure EV02 as if it was EV01 (services+tasks), and EV01 will act like it is EV02.

The description in the Admin Guide is good, so should get you started.

Thank you, Gertjan, MCSE, MCITP,MCTS, SCS, STS

Here are some ideas..

1/ Geo-cluster

2/ Building Blocks configuration

Standby server in remote data centre.  Data needs to be replicated...  ie partition data, index data and so on.  Names used by the client talking to the server have to stay the same in order for the failover to be transparent.

In the end much of depends on how much money you have got, and what sorts of disasters you are protecting against.  eg server loss, disk loss, data loss, etc.

Many Thanks,

Rob

You would also need to synchronize indexes/databases/vault stores for "real DR". Our EVNearSync is able to assist you here: http://www.quadrotech-it.com/products/evnearsync/

another option to consider is Symantec's own HA/DR solution which would allow you to cluster all your servers and replicate the storage as well. fully tested and supported for EV.
