Hi.

OK, this is the last post :-)

After review of the Mgmt Console and the app in general, it would appear that this software requires some significant resources.  I have not tested this in production (11 computers say with the defaults of 5 minutes on the heartbeat) but was wondering if one should in practice isolate this app on it's own box.

I say this becuase the Small Business Servers (Exchange Filtering, AD, ISA, Prem Anti Spam, WSUS) are so maxed already and even the member servers that used to hum a few years back are bogged down now by the new and better ;-) apps (Quickbooks, Peachtree, Lacerte - all with their own database mangement servers.

Point is that nowdays, all vendors place so much more into their code that even on servers that in the past would hum, they are getting bogged down.
Anybody else getting tired of hearing "My computer is so slow today!"?

So, just wondering what ya'll are seeing out in the field as to how much more sluggishness SEPM adds to an already overtaxed Server 200X OX?

Thanks.

Hi,

Well, 2-4 GB of RAM is recommended for the SEPM server. But what also matters is how much of that RAM is "available", when all these other applications you mentioned are running. I would recommend to have at least 1 GB of free RAM

As far as disk space is concerned, even if you have 8 GB of free space, it would be sufficient. if you have 11 computers in your network, I dont think there would be any  performance problems. During the initial deployment, you may see a little jump in the resourse consumption, but that wont last forever.

Hi

SEPM 5 has come up with lot of improvements with respect to space and cpu usage.
if you read the realease notes major fixes are with respect with performance.
for resource consumption with respect to Disk size, i would suggest you to use the DBsize tool which is available under the download section.
you can use that excel sheet to check whats the size of disk utilization would be
changing the heart beat to an higher leavel will reduce the load on SEPM so that it need not have to update /process the logs from clients every 5 mins ( which is by defalut)

you may check this performance increasing document when y ou have too many critical services running on SMB or DC.

If your SBS server is not

If your SBS server is not already at 4GB of RAM, god help you...  SEPM alone will run well with a server running Windows, SEP, and up to 75 clients with 2GB of RAM.  1GB for the OS, and 1 for the SEPM.

But factor in all your other applications, max out the server memory to 4GB or even 8GB+ if you can use a 64bit OS.

Also, buy the most cores you can, CPU count is nice, but cores are better.
