Hi all,

I'm following up on this forum post from a couple of years ago, where it was indicated that REST intagration component support was going to be added in Workflow 7.1. I'm seeing more systems in my environment that expose RESTful services and would love to consume them natively with Workflow. Initially, we're looking at developing self-service server provisioning through Workflow and integration with the vCloud product.

Is this still planned functionality? Will we see it in Workflow 7.5?

This is a great question to have brought up. At this point, it does not appear that the REST functionality is going to make it in the 7.5 release. This is definitely still in the backlog of development items, and I believe some development has already taken place. However, I don't believe it's going to be ready in time for this release.

I do know it is now being considered a high priority feature and I'd like to be able to promise it will be in the next update after 7.5. But it looks like we were thinking the same thing two years ago too, so no guarantees I guess. Hopefully we can get a little more solid information soon.

Thanks for the frank response. We'll try to push ahead with our integration plans but it looks like it'll be a lot more painful! I'm looking forward to this functionality being added to a future workflow release, or more information when it comes to hand.

I have the REST generator and I think you can get it by asking Support and they'll give you a beta key. The thing is I don't know how to use it and I've asked several Symantec employees as well to give me an example on how to use it but they didn't know how either.

One of the main reasons we've held back on making the REST generator non-beta is the wizard is not very intuitive.

As far as other things to try, you might want to look at the HTTP Post component.

It definitely is not user friendly and doesn't even give you any hints to how it should be configured so I gave up. Hope this gets fixed when it's officially released as more web services are using this protocol.
