Hi Guys

Im new to this site and have only been doing the patching for a few months now so please bear with me if i ask any funny questions. I have looked through this forum aswell as the Juice site but have had no luck.

My main concern is that i am unable to create tasks for some bulletins where as i can for others.

An example is this months patches which i can see in the patch management console but cant create tasks for (e.g. MS08-078, -077, -076 etc) but i can create tasks for MS08-075, 074,072)

Everytime i try to create tasks via the wizard i get the following error:

Software Bulletin XXXXXX is not ready for distribution. please ensure the Software Bulletin is staged before creating a software update task

Any ideas or help would be most appreiciated.

You need to highlight and then right click on the bulletin and select 'stage', or click on the the 'power plugged in' button on the task bar. The staging process downloads the packages and readies a bulletin for distribution.

Here is a good kb to follow the process:https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=33580&p=1

Another thing that would generate that kind of error is if not all of the updates have downloaded. If not, either right-click and select recreate software packages (if this doesn't work), disable and then restage the bulletin. After the initial PMImport, another one was released that contained some additional updates.

Patch management is new for me too. I have the same problem and I have verified that packages are downloaded is correct folder.

I found that if I am member of Altiris Administrators, it works fine. If I am a member of level 2 role, it doesnt work? Is any specific configuration required to work without administrator role?

Thanks for reply ...

These rights have to be assigned by the Altiris Admin - see https://kb.altiris.com/article.asp?article=18834&p=1
