restore backup on Server 2008 problem
Updated: 23 May 2010 | 2 comments
My company is migrating all 2k3 servers to 2k8. Unfortunately for me this means my ghost server too. I performed the usual backup routine using the \scripts\ that are included. I've restored these several times, but it's always been on Srv 2k3, never 2k8. 2008 is failing to restore the backup saying: "Failed to extract data file "db\SYMANTECGHOST.DB" from input cabinet"
This is not good for me.
The DB file appears to be intact. Is there a manual way I can re-import my old database? Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers,

This is due to Microsoft
This is due to Microsoft changing the command-line format of the command-line cabinet extraction utility to be incompatible with the version in all pre-Vista OS's.
There's an updated script collection at the download page which has a fix for that; the most recent download there at the moment has all the scripts tuned to work on the Vista line of Windows, which includes some additional fixes for things that are broken by the UAC system and a couple other things as well as resolving this.
The scripts shipped with the product are just a copy of the ones I maintain at the google code product, and the open-source versions are easier for me to keep up to date.
I figured that was case.
I figured that was case. Luckily, last night I was able to manually restore everything.
Imported the password.reg key, copied the pub/priv keys, and copied over the database. Worked like a champ. (I also had support on the line to keep me from doing something stupid).
Speaking of open-source, when are you guys going to open GSS? ;)
Nigel, thanks for your help once again.
Cheers!
