I was looking for log of EMM database on C:\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\logs\nbemm and this file is show me many messages with failed to connect to database...
Can anybody help me?
The log file of nbemm is attached.
Thanks.

Does your server have the same name as the original master with NetBackup installed to the same location?
Did you install NetBackup whilst the server had a different name and then rename it when you did the restore?
Please tell us exactly what you have done and which copy (1 or 2) of the catalog backup you have used
Thanks

Hi mark,
When I installed the new new server I use the same name, IP etc... so when I´ll use new server I must to keep out old server from domain and put new server to domain.
I´ll put screen of catalog process attach.
I don´t know what copy it is using, to make restore I did follow:
Right click button on Catalog and chosen restore catalog backup, follow screen to load disaster recovery file and next until the screen attach.

So can you confirm that the original Master was also installed to C:\Program Files\Veritas ?
Also see if there is a bpdbm log directory on the server - its log may also give clues
#EDIT#
I need the nbdb log file mainly!

Both of servers are the same path of installed software, but I don´t have a bpdbm directory, I created now.
Where can I found this nbdb log file?
I found the server.txt log on NetbackupBD\log folder it is attached

Raw version of unified logs do not help - they need to be viewed with vxlogview.
The Recover log in <install-path>\veritas\netbackup\logs\user-ops\logs\ folder should give us better idea.
Please find log and post as File attachment.
PS - did you verify that NBU on new server is exacly same NBU patch level as old master?

Can you open another admin console up so that you can see what the restore jobs are actaully doing - nothing that obvious so far that i can see - apart from the errors in the first log
Interesting that one is in English and one in Portugese?
Can you also confirm that when NetBackup was installed it has the same name as the original ... its NetBackup name that is ... so scsnb2.unileaf.com.br and not scsnb2 - they both should be the same

Mark,
I opened another admin console and there are two job´s of restore catalog "done with status 0",
but the first screen that I sent still in the same status "Starting databases"
Yes, the two servers are the same name, but when the new server was installed we are put domain name included on name of the server, but two servers are the same domain unileaf.com.br.

Unfortunately as far as netbackup is concerned scsnb2 and scsnb2.unileaf.com.br are two different names and that is why it is unable to start the database as it cannot connect to scsnb2 - the tables / configuration files are all wrong.
You will have to start again
Uninstall NetBackup completely and make sure the registry is clean (HKLM\Software\Veritas\NetBackup)
and make sure C:\Program Files\Veritas has gone.
Next re-install NBU using the same name so just scsnb2 and patch to the same level as the original
The catalog should then restore - needs too much work to put the current installation right I am afraid
Let us know how you get on

Ok Mark, you are right, I will make new server with name scsnb2 and try to restore again, I´ll post here any result, ok.
Thank you very much.

Just make sure when you install NetBackup and it shows its netbackup name that you remove the FQDN part from the end - that is all that matters really (unless the server name itself was different but i dont see how that can be the case)

Hello Mark and Marianne. thank you very much for your help.
I follow your instructions as below:
- Unisntall NBU;
- Removed any program and folder with Netbackup or Veritas word from program files;
- Deleted any reference to netbackup and veritas from registry;
- Add line "ip_address and server_name" (old server name - scsnb2), on hosts file;
- Restarted server and installed NBU with the same version/patches of the old server;
- Made restore of catalog and everithing was running ok.
Thank you again.
Hugs.

Mark is 100% right.
I had another look at unformatted version of Emm log. Enough helpful info to show that NBU is currently installed as scsnb2.unileaf.com.br but needs to find scsnb2.
scsnb2.unileaf.com.br != scsnb2, so, EMM cannot startup.
Since we see that LocalHost = <scsnb2.unileaf.com.br>, please add local hosts entry for the server itself before you re-install NBU as shortname:
<IP address> scsnb2 scsnb2.unileaf.com.br

Hi, I add local hosts entry for the server scsnb2, I´m running restore now since 9:45 hs, I think that is the same situation, but now I have bpdbm log for analysis, it is attached and hosts file too.
thanks.

Have you re-installed? There is a lots of internal netbackup naming at play here, not just name resolution

No Mark, I just add entry in hosts file and tried to restore again, as told Mariane.

What Marianne was trying to say:
Add the alias in hosts file before you re-install.
My reason for this recommendation is because the EMM log showed local hostname as FQDN.
So, shortname needs to be vaild at OS level (hosts file) as well as NBU installation.

Ok Marianne, thanks for explanation, I didn´t understood.
I´ll do that procedure with new server, and post here result.
Thanks again.
