Restore to Cold spare - Catalog of backup to disk file is SLOW

Created: 15 Jul 2009 • Updated: 21 May 2010 | 2 comments

We are using backup exec 10.0 to backup and trying to restore to different hardware.  We have backed up to external USB drives.

I installed the newest version of BE on the recovery server.  Then inventoried the backup drive (176 files) selected all and catalogged the bunch.  It appears to be taking 30+ minutes per file.  I thought that the catalogs were stored on the backup file an that they should be able to be retrieved very quickly.  Am I missing something?

If I have to wait several days just to catalog the files this is not a viable solution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want catalogs of 10d to merge with newest version you have to upgrade 10d to 11D and then to newest version.

The catalogs are stored in the catalogs folder.  Under the catalogs folder there should be a folder with the name of you BE server.  If you have that folder from the old server you can copy it into your new servers catalog folder.  After that, restart the services for BE and all the catalogs should be set.
