Restore data from merged clients
Hi everyone....
Hoping someone is answering this topic and all is not down in Haag and Managefusion ![]()
We hade a person who ran out for a computer crash last week. He got a new computer but with the same computer name.
Old computer: PCRE5220, HP NC6400
New computer: PCRE5220, HP NC6910p
This results in double clients in the resource table.
Usually when a user gets a new computer (not with the same name) we used the migration tool (AeXMigrt.exe) and so we also did this time. But this time we couldnt find any data from the old client, just the new one.
And also via the RS agent we only could see the old data.
But when I look in the resource manager I find both of the clients and I also found the recovery files for the old client. The problem there was that I couldnt restore data from the old to the new one.
So my first thought was to merge the clients but I wasnt sure what will happen with the old recovery files so I contact one of our contact man for Altiris. He said that the recovery files for the old client properly will follow the merging but he wasnt sure. So...I tried that this morning and
it didnt turn up satisfied. Now it's only one client with that name in resource manager but I cant find the old recovery files regardless I check with All installations at both RS-agent or NS-console.
So
Primary problem: How do I find the old recovery files and how do I restore them to the client? Can I UNmerge the computer?
Secondary problem: How does WBFR works?? I thought as an Altiris administrator you always could use WBFR to restore data to .zip-files.
I havent checked "Allow web-based restoration for all new users" because I thought that was only a feature for domain users to restore files from WBFR, not administrators.
So anybody??
Regards...
Found another computer deep down in the system which the user had logoned to and also was merged to the other backup so I could restore it from there =)
