Hello Experts

Can Symantec Backup Exec 2010 R3 restore data from tapes backed-up with Symantec Backup Exec 2012

Up to a point yes - but what you are asking for is forwards compatibility and as such there are things that 2012 can do that 20120 R3 cannot handle. This document covers some limitations

The other way around is more likely to work (i.e. fowarsd compatible - data on a 2010 tape is restorable with 2012, unless something like NetWare that has been discontinued is involved)

To some extent yes. You need to catalog the Tape to find out what can be restored from the Tape you have. In perticular the Agent data (like Exchange, SQL, etc) may not be restored, but the files and folders should work.

Additionally, if the backup was made for an application only supported by BE 2012, you cant restore that data using BE 2010
