Hi,

I want to restore an Exchange mailbox from tape. I have catalogued the tape I want to restore from but I am a little confused. On the tape there are two entries for Exchange - one says #CompanyName - First Storage Group. Listed is Mailbox Store and Public Folder Store. There is also another entry for Exchange that says Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes (Full) and this entry has all the individual mailboxes listed. Which do I restore from? What are the two entries? Is the first one just the .edb file?

Thanks

Hi

It looks like you have 2 ways of backup done with exchange one as GRT backup due to which you see mailboxes databases first and below that mailboxes and other view you see because you have done legacy backup of exchange due to which you see those individual mailboxes directly

Legacy way is not supported way as best is to use GRT backup so in your case as you have got 2 , if you restore from the 2nd view that is legacy backup view restore would happen directly from tape but if you restore from GRT then it would stage the entire mailbox database to local drive on Media server and then will perform restore. So if you run in to any issue using the legacy restore view you can choose to restore using GRT way and for that if you duplicate backup from tape to disk will also help as you don't have to stage the mailbox database each time if restore fails
