  • 1.  restore from ghost partition?

I've used Ghost for a while but am relatively new to solution suite.  Is there a way to restore from an image file that has been downloaded into the ghost virtual partition?

I've tried creating a task with Clone and Transfer Files selected.  Under Transfer Files I put the name of my image files and the destination of [Ghost Partition].  How do I create a Config Resource \ Image object that points to this gho file?

I've selected "Image is located on the Client Machine" but what's the path?  What's the drive letter of the Ghost Partition?  I tried C:\ but that didn't work.

Do I have a more fundamental misunderstanding here?  Do the transfer files only occur after the clone operation completes?

    Hi there,
It is an interesting scenario you have here.
However, I don't believe you can restore an image from ghost virtual partition via console clone task. Here's a couple of reasons I can think of.
    1) Ghost virtual partition only has a few MB of free space, so you can't really transfer any OS image into it.
    2) Steps included in a ghost task are executed in pre-defined orders, and clone comes before file transfer.

Just wondering, are you unable to transfer the image to the client machines via a separate task first? Followed by a clone task, specifying a image resource that points to the location where you've just transferred the image.
    Eg.
    1) Run file transfer task : Transfer image.gho to say, c:\.
    2) Create a local image resource :
Select "Image is located on the client machine"
Specify "c:\image.gho" in the location field.
    3) Run clone task : Select the local image resource you've just created above.

    Hope that helps

    Cheers

Would that work?  Can you restore from a file on C:\ when you're overwriting C:\ ?

Can you create Task dependencies?  ie a Clone task starts after a Transfer Files task finishes.

Yep, you can have the image on c: and overwrite c: with it. :smileyhappy:
I don't think there is a way to start one task based on another task's progress though.

    Cheers
