restore hyperv server to dissimilar hardware

Created: 16 Jan 2014 | 1 comment

Hello,

I need to restore an hyperv host server running windows 2012 to a different hardware, more specifically Motherboard, CPU and memory will be different.

What is the procedure I should do?

And what about windows activation? Will I need to active again, right? Will I have a trial period or I will have to immediatly call microsoft?

The procedure is the same as any other restore anyware. Just run the restore and let SSR do the rest. You may need to provide Windows 2012 drivers during the restore if they do not already exist on the recovery disk.

Yes, you may well need to re-activate Windows after the restore if there is a significant change in the hardware.
