Restore from a location not defined in a backup job?

This issue has been solved. See solution.
Is this possible:
to copy a .bkf job from it's original location to a new location and then restore from that new location? I can't find a way to do this in backup exec. For example:
A backup exec job runs that backs up a files to c:\directoryA\job.bkf
I copy and paste this job from c:\directoryA to c:\directoryB\job.bkf
I use backup exec to restore from c:\directoryB\job.bkf
I am wanting to do this because we are backing up to a NAS, that NAS has a usb attached swappable hard drive. I need to be able to copy files from the NAS to the swappable drive and then restore those files if necessary.

Hello Yes it is possible,
Hello
Yes it is possible, After moving the .BKF files from Dir A to Dir B, you will have to create a B2D folder pointing to Dir B and
then you need to perform an inventory. You will be able to see all the files in the restore window as the catalogs are in place.

I hate to appear so ignorant
I hate to appear so ignorant but how does one perform an inventory?
Right click on the B2D folder
Right click on the B2D folder and select inventory.

RE: Restore from a location not defined in a backup job?
Best way to do this would be to Duplicate the NAS files to the External drive using a B2D2D job. Symantec even provides a template that you can use (you do need to create a B2D Device on the external drive)
You could also do it manually:
Create a B2D device on the External Drive
manually copy the files to the device
inventory the folder
catalog the folder

Thanks alot. I was able to
Thanks alot. I was able to right click and do an inventory but when I go to set up a restore job the directory that I set up as a backup to disk folder is not there under all resources. How do I catalog the folder please?
In the restore window you
In the restore window you should be able to see the resources that you backed up. Make sure you uncheck the date range in the window.
There is no need to catalog media as you have just moved the .BKF files. The catalogs are still intact @ X:Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec

RE: Thanks alot. I was able to
Once the B2D folder has been inventoried, from the devices tab, right click the folder\Catalog

Once the B2D folder has been inventoried, from the devices tab, right click the folder\Catalog
This is why I said that a B2D2D would be easier, since Backup Exec updates the catalog automatically with this information

If i left click the folder
If i left click the folder the files in the folder show in the right pane. I can right click those files and there is a catalog option in the menu. I can do this for two of the files listed. However, when i do this I get the following error:
Catalog 00007 -- The job failed with the following error: The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Job ended: Thursday, September 09, 2010 at 9:57:20 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33994
When I click the link associated with it it refers to jobs on tape drives however these files are on my hard drive.
Nevertheless, when i right click a file i copied over in the right pane it also gives me an option to restore from it.
I would like to know; what exactly is the purpose of cataloging the file and what does this do?
Thanks again for all the help I really appreciate it!!

Invnetory reads the header info to determine which media this is (tape or BKF File)
Catalog reads the media and places info about the data contained in/on it into the catalog, so that you can restore the data
You should only have to catalog media that has been imported or moved to a different B2D device, as BackupExec creates these entries in the catalog when the backup is running. (This is why you can restore some data from a "FAILED" backup)
