Restore No Longer Pick Proper storage location/pool

Created: 30 Jan 2014 | 3 comments

Just this week my restores from Backup Exec 2012 do not pick the right storage location to restore from. I backup to a USB docking station and the backups work fine since thay are configured to any disk storage but the restores now go to "Unconfigured Storage Location 006" and fail.  There doesn't seem to be a way to select "All Devices" like was automatically chosen two days ago.

Here is a screen show of two different restores with just default options for the restores.

have you ran an inventory and catalog on the drive?

Yes, I did. I realized that the file list I was give to restore contained a file that was not backed up yet this week because it had not changed since the full backup last Friday. This one file in the list caused this because it is not on the backup date I selected and USB drives are no longer looked at as individual drives even if they are in a docking station. That one change to how USB drives were handled is why I will never buy another version of Backup Exec. The 2010 version handled USB drives in a USB docking station like a tape drive but not in 2012. The other confusing thing is that the list of files to selec from contains all of the file in the database not just the ones that are on that backup set alone. There is only a difference in the icon. Probably another result from the USB drive change.
