Restore old emails question

Created: 09 Jul 2009 • Updated: 25 Aug 2014 | 2 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

We are currently running BE 12.5 on Exchange 2007.  Our current Exchange server is called "Exchange07".  An employee wants emails restored from a couple years ago when we were running Exchange 2003 and BE 11d.  Our old Exchange server was called simply "Exchange".  That old server has since been removed and deleted.  My question is, will I be able to restore the old emails that resided on "Exchange" to "Exchange07"?  Right now I'm not having much luck other than cataloging the old tapes on the new server.  I cannot veiw anything under the Information Store.  If my hunch is correct, I need to setup/install an exchange 2003 mail server with the exact settings as the old, right?

I think you will have to set up the standalone Exchange 2003 server. Exchange 2007 is different to Exchange 2003 with regards to the database and how it's constructed.
Rather be safe than sorry and restore it that way. There will be some Microsoft Technet articles on how to do this. I'd try keep it separate from your Exchange 2007 environment, and if you can install it on it's own, do that. No sense in messing things up now.
BE 12.5 will read those tapes, and the data on them with no issues.
