Restore a VM to different ESX

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hello,

i have to restore a whole VM to a different ESX, in order to have my old and my restored VM running in the same time (with not the same name of course).

My backup is based on files level and not the VMDK image (an agent is installed on each VM)

When i launch restoration wizzard, i try to restore a computer (not files, directories or volumes), but in this mode i don't have the choice, it seems that i must restore it at the same location... and i cannot remane my VM too.

I would like to know how to do it, should i have to restore the system state first on my new VM, then restore my VM individual files to this new VM?

Thx for you help

Looks like the backup was performed using the remote agent and not using the VMware agent...If yes, you can redirect these backup sets to an alternate location....You would need a blank VM setup at the other ESX ...And the restore must be initiated by selecting the VM from the Backup & Restore tab...

If the backup was performed using the VMware agent, then you can select the vCenter / ESX to initiate the restore, and then restore the entire vmdk to an alternate ESX..

Hello,

thx for your answer. Can you just precise what are you calling a blank VM? This a VM with only the OS installed?

Yep, thats right.

You also need to install the Backup Exec remote agent on the 'blank' VM, otherwise the restore won't work.
