Restored image won't boot
As a proof of concept I build a Small Business server (Dell 2850) and used BESR 8.5 to create images of the 2 volumes C: and D:. The source machine has PERC Raid 5 running on it. I then tried to move the image of the C: drive onto a different Dell box (2800) also running a PERC Raid 5 but of a different size.
Problem is that the restored image on the new server will not boot. The drive does not appear to be recognized as bootable. I checked the flags using the BESR utilities and the image is marked as primary and bootable. I also tried every permutation available on the target Dell machine to see if I was missing something in the RAID configuration. I don't think it is the physical RAID configuration since I can put a Windows Server disk in the machine which won't boot and successfully install the OS. Must be something with BESR but I don't know what. I have tried a couple of similar migrations using somewhat similar hardware with no problems. Any ideas? My trial period is about up but I can't justify the expense if I am going to have these issues in the future. Thanks
Paul

The PowerEdge 2850 and the PowerEdge 2800 tecnically share the same HAL, so therefor can share an image. The only difference is the form factor, rack vs tower. You shouldn't need to use Restore Anyware for this image.
Do both systems have a Dell Utility partition? I f you chose to restore the utility partition, then Albert Widjaja solution here would apply:

Other wise, you can eliminate the utility partitions and restore the MBR to the C: drive and set C: as active for booting.
If you want to try the Restore Anyware feature, you can contact Symantec Licensing for a temporary License key that will enable that feature.
Yes, that's true Marco :-)
that was such a strange problem with Dell PowerEdge server but now I'm glad that it has been solved.
hope that helps.
Cheers. !

Once the image is restored, try to lay the OS image down over itself again, without restoring any of the other volumes. Use the switched to make it bootable.
If that does not work, when is the error you are getting when you reboot?
