Restoring emails

Hi all,

You can use the "Archive explorer" bottom from Outlook Add-in to restore an email folder or a group of them. But there is a limit of 1.000 emails to be restored at a time. Is there any way to increase this value?

Thanks in advanced and best regards.

Not that I'm aware of, but maybe it'd be easier to export to PST or msilbox through the Vault Admin Console using the export wizard?

Hello Juan,

You can refer following technote, to configure the MaxRestoreItems in webapp.ini file on EV Server.

How to customize Enterprise Vault web applications using the WebApp.ini file

Thanks JesusWept3. I'd rather prefer to allow the user to restore their emails insted of using the console.

Thanks Advisor. I'll take a look at that.

In that case, you're probably best off giving them virtual vault if restoring 1000+ items is a common occurrence

I could finally increase that value (limited previously to 1.000) using the FederatedSearchMaxItems setting instead of the other one. It didn't work for me using MaxRestoreItems.

Why do you recommend Virtual Vault for this kind of restoring?

What I want is to allow some specific users to restore some email folders by themselves, without our help. What they really want is to make some pst files from important old email folders and store them as backup files in CDs or DVDs.

Thanks.

Good to know..he might be refering to Virtual Vault because of the bulk restore operation. Normally bulk restores should not be performed using AE or Search, as these web applications are not designed for it. It might freeze on you sometimes.

Restoring large number of archived items should always be performed using Export Archive wizard which is a reliable tool for bulk jobs.

I hope this helps.
