Restoring mail items to exchange 2010 dag with load balancer fails.

This issue has been solved. See solution.

When I attempt to restore the mail items the job fails.  I found the article http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH144195 which suggests using the redirect restore to the ip address of one of the CAS nodes.  My questions are:

1. Do I use the ip of the dag server that is hosting the active database or the one hosting the copy?

2. If I select the check box for Microsoft Exchange Redirection, do I put the server in the box as \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx or can I just use \\servername?

Thanks,

Les

You could certainly try to use the IP address of the DAG node that is hosting the active database. However, it would be better to use the ip address of the CAS node (Either one would do) as the restore request goes via CAS.

As for using the \\ServerName that would depend on how your network load balancer and DNS is configured. Better stay with ipaddress. And dont forget the host file entries, without it you will get the same issue again.
