This issue has been solved. See solution.

Netbackup version : 6.5.5

we have taken the online catalog backup. and tried to restore it in Netbackup 7.5 master server. The restoration completed successfully but the NBDB database was not running after the restoration.

Also I have tried restoring the same catalog bakup in Netbackup 6.5.5 and it completed successfully and the backups are running fine.

Can we restore Netbackup 6.x catalog backup in 7.x version??

You can't directly restore 6.5.5 catalog into 7.5. You have covert it to 7.0 after you successfully recover, you can upgrade Master to 7.5.x.

Good Luck.

Hi Khajan,

How to convert the 6.5.5 catalog to 7.0 after the catalog recovery?

Thanks for the reply..

How to convert 6.5.5 catalog to 7.0 ? Can you share the procedure?

Yes, you just upgrade the server to 7.x - the upgrade procedure converts the catalog.

A catalog can only be restored to the exact same version it was made on.

Additionally, the install path of the NBU software must be exactly the same, and, the hostname of the server must be exactly the same.

It is possible to change the install path/ hostname, but only using a Symantec partner who offers this service.  There is no way to restore a catalog to a different version - it is impossible.

I have successfully upgraded catalog from 6.5 on 7.0, Ideal case is upgrade your current Master to 7.x and migrate to 7.5.  Surely Engage our Partners or Symantec Consulting for complex conversions.

... backups are running fine.

PLEASE DON'T!  Without successful restore of EMM database ALL tapes will show up as unassigned/blank/available!!! You WILL overwrite valid backups from your 6.x environment.
