Restoring from tape to different hardware
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 4 comments
Hello!
Here's my situation... bare with me.
We are in the process of beginning our migration from SAV 10.0.2 to SEP 11 MR4. Our SAV server crashed (hardware failure). I don't have replacement parts for this server... I do have a different server that can take it's place for the time being until we upgrade and migrate to the latest and greatest.
My problem: How can I successfully restore SAV 10.0.2 from tape via backup exec 12.5 to a new server? All I can find to restore are the Program Files. What am I missing? How do I get the program to re-register? How can I get all of my groups and settings back?
Help!!!
Thanks,

You have to restore the whole
You have to restore the whole machine with the identical name and SID that was used by the other crashed server. You cannot only restore the folder in program files anyway you also need the correct keys that are in the registry.
An other way to restore is to reinstall SAV 10.0.2 from CD and push out (with a script or manually) the file called grc.dat (from the folder where you install the SAV server) to each clients Symantec Antivirus folder. This will cause the client to register with the server that you took the grc.dat file from
restore
If you have backup copy of sav's sql database you can that to new machine then try mount the database to the newly installed sav server.
Thnks
You should get these fies and registry keys to restore...
You should get these files and registry keys to restore..
PKI folder(Can be restored form ur backup)
If u have any registry backup try to get these keys
hklm\software\Landesk\intel\virusprotecion6\currentversion\
under this key u will find ssc settings, group and client keys. if u restore this ur ssc group's and clients will come back
Same server name, ip address and certificate can re establish the client and server communication.

I don't think that the Backup
I don't think that the Backup Exec can restore the entire machine for that u need System Recovery. What u can do is if u have SQL DB then u can mount the prenew DB with the back up DB As well said by Gilbert08.
Restoration of the entire machine state is possible in System Recovery not in Backup Exec
