Restoring VM from differential backup

Created: 29 Aug 2012 | 2 comments

Hi,

I have BE 2010 R3 SP2+HF  with ESXi 4.2

I am trying to restore a VM from differential backup set, restore went fine(selected only differential backup set) and it should restore data from last full also.

As stated above, restore went fine and I was able to boot the VM also, data(all drives and their size) seems to be intact....BUT when I check in event viewer,it doesnt show all data(event logs)...it shows  only point in time event logs when snapshot was taken for differential but not old events like we see after doing restore from FULL backup of VM?

Is this bug nor normal behaviour..if yes why so?

I checked sec.evt,appl.evt and system.evt files also under c:\windows\system32\config and file size same as original VM...

what is wrong? can somebody plz help on priority?

Does the restore job log show that even though you only selected the restore from the diff, that both the diff and the full media were used as if working correctly you should see this.

Alsdo does teh full backup set still exist in the original location or did you duplicate it off to somewhere else and then overwrite the original location for the full with a newer job?

Yes It had both backup sets and orginal backup set also present at original solution. But this issue has been resolved after enabling filter in appl log,it shows all logs.
