Restricting Vault store partition to x GB
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 8 comments
Hi,
We have a huge disk volume configured for the Vault Store partition. We would like to split it across multiple vault store partirions, with 200 GB each.
I didnt find any option to say, move to another partition after x GB. Possible configurations are surrounding the disk volume free space.
Please help on the same to under stand, how this can be acheived.
Thanks
Narayana

Hi, Would the rollover
Hi,
Would the rollover functionality in EV8 be what you are looking for? This is covered from page 60 of the Administration Guide for Enterprise Vault version 8.

Yes. Partition roll over is what i am looking to configure. But, i am looking for options to restrict each parttion to 200 GB.
Can some one help me, how to restrict a volume to a certain size?
Thanks
Narayana
If you set the limit for
If you set the limit for rollover at 200GB will this not be the restriction for you?
Otherwise there is no other option I am afraid in EV.
Unfortunately, i dont see
Unfortunately, i dont see any option which talks about restricting based on size.
One talks about Voume free space (% free, & GB free), other with time limit.
Thanks

Apologies I should of been clearer ;-)
You are correct you can only set GB free space, but if you have a 400GB drive, what I meant is set this at 200Gb will give you rollover at 200GB.
There would be no other way to acheieve this with EV I am afraid. You could always add it as a new idea in the ideas section. I beleieve these are monitored and if enough people vote may be put in the product in the future.

Thanks for the response.
We have 2 TB single volume, and we wish to split it across to 10 chunks of 200 GB.
If we need to make it work using % disk free option, i am thinking of creating 10 volumes. Each with lesser % free partition roll over limit, starting from 90% till 10%. For ex, to move from 1st partition to second, we will set it as when 90% free. Second to third at 80% free.
Does this work this way?
Thanks

I'm don't think that you'll
I'm don't think that you'll be able to set it as you mentioned as you won't be able to set multiple % variables for the same rollover configuration.
One option I can think of that might do what you are after is to devide the 2TB volume to 10 LUNs. this way you can limit the partition to the LUN size and use the % disk space, everytime a partition get's to 90% of the LUN, it will rollover to the next....
Does that make sense?

Thanks for the response.
We are having difficulties in splitting the volume, which is already in use. and not able to use that method.
looking forward for an alternate procedure.
