Result in Null

IAVchick's picture

The FileSystemObject may have been disabled and/or restricted.  Now when attempting to run reports, it times out and returns a 'result is nulll.'  What do you think the issue is?

Not sure what your error or comment means?

"The FileSystemObject may have been disabled and/or restricted"

Is this something you see in the logs, or an action you performed?

It is an action our IT staff

It is an action our IT staff performed.  It seems that Altiris relies heavily on a lot of scripting, ActiveX and FSO.  Also recently the kill bit for the CLSID ActiveX control {63716E93-033D-48B0-8A2F-8E8473FD7AC7} was disabled on every asset with the exception of our NS server, could this result in reports not working?  We are a DoD component and have strict guidelines on vulnerability managements.  Many of these enhanced and more restrictive settings have grossly interfered with our Altiris NS and DS.

Patch available

IAVAchick:
It looks like Symantec has a patch for this:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/securityupdates/detail.jsp?fid=security_advisory&pvid=security_advisory&suid=20090922_00

Hmm well OK the patch just disables the control using a Killbit.  It looks like from the AKB49069 that this is supposed to be fixed in NS 6.0 R12.  Perhaps if you open a support ticket they can provide the development fix to you so you can start using all the functions of your NS (the KB specifically references the Solution Center not working anymore).
