During my time as an Altiris admin, I've never worked with a blank auditpls.ini before.  If it were to have all settings removed, what would the software audit do by default?

Best Guess: Nothing

I haven't tried it, but my guess would be that auditpls would error from an invalid .ini.  Even if it doesn't error from being passed a blank file, without items in the File Mask or Disk Usage section, it wouldn't actually record anything from a scan.

The out of the box

The out of the box auditpls.ini has quite a bit of "stuff" in it.  I agree with bgreen, it may not pick anything up if it was blank.
