Here's another thing. I've noticed that some forumers just post a message saying they agree with what [other user] said. That's it. 5 points easy. I wish they'd add a little bit more information. I don't want to search for discussions and possible solutions and have to wait for the page to load only to see a couple of posts saying they agree or disagree without explaining.

mon_raralio - this is something we are working on. In the future we plan to award points based on how many votes a comment or a blog gets so only if it is useful to people earn points. Stay tuned for more details as we work on tweaking our rewards program.

How about number of hits instead of voting if that is possible. Or plus points for the person that created the forum post that is widely discussed.

i agree with [rant], that there are a lot of entries which are just 1 liner comments with very less information.
i remeber that in juice there was administer approval required for it, and as connect is getting bigger it must be very difficult of connect admin to go through every comment.

But I think that red icon beside your name really helps. I mean, by you saying that you agree to any statments has a lot of weight, majority of us would  accept it. No questions asked.

because hav seen fellows active from since 1-2 yrs hav all five red marks or 4 reds

The red marks unfortunately do not count.
The reward points needed to "buy" things did start from zero when connect was launched a month or two ago.

I'll have enough to get a Garmin Nüvi, I think... ;)

I guess rewarding people would also be like a bonus to them for the good deeds that they have shown.

I know someone who have already claimed at least 2 of the rewards and is waiting for the 3rd one to arrive by mail and it's not me.

I guess rewarding people who gives out technical answers which would be a solution to others should really be rewarded for the time and experiences that they have alotted for a certain topic.

I agree with rainier. Additional points if a post is marked as a solution. Applied to the thread starter and the one that gave the solution.
I really want to see some threads get resolved.

Yes, Symantec do honour on something they promise. Reward points really work.

Those less useful one liners and good sloution writeups has importance in it's own ways. Though it may seem that one liners does not give any real advantages, but in order to get more points, out of 5, people do give 4 one liner answer and 1 actual answer. And that actual answer is worth the points for 5 answers. I guess... It's a human pyscology, and it works that way.

The points system is to reward those who make posts and help others. The more you put into it the more you will get out of the forums. There are many people on here, who don't need their names mentioned because everyone knows them ,who provide a great service by helping others. I think that we should all join in and Mark the posts as solved and put votes on posts because we are getting these solutions for free so as users in the forums we should contribute to their points as a way to say thank you for helping.

Many on the forums save their points...I know some who are hoping to reach enough points for the cruise and to those who help and plan on getting the cruise I wish them Bon Voyage

@Mon: The "I agree" statements are congesting the forum.

Here is the deal:

Authors of Blogs and forums that could be kept as holy grails needs to be given extra points...
Authors of Solutions must be given greater...

what about giving them a point for effort but give the 5 points to follow ups and additional info's.
And to end this, give 5+ points to the person that gave the solution.
Now this is a fair deal...

Just my thoughts.  

As a frequent contributor I have been rewarded with over 35000 points in the last two years.
First on Juice and later on Connect.
I have traded them in for Harddisks, Fotoframes, Phtotcamera, and lately I trade them in for Amazon certificates.
That enabled me to order some nice stuff.
I have Lego for the kids, A Wii, a Nintendo DSI but also a 42"Panasonic flatscreen.

The only thing you need to do is to write good and challenging articles that are real contributions to Connect.

When ordering from the rewards catalog it usually takes about two weeks. i live in Europe so it has to be sended over seas.
The Amazon gift certificates are in German format and that only takes two day's and then i have them in my email.

Rewards hardly matters here. What matters is the knowledge and trobleshooting. Symantec is rewarding  you and me for our valuable time spent on commenting on the points.

So keep commenting logical  and you will be rewarded.

Ordering Amazon certificates can be done by going to the rewards page and click on the button order now.
Then your email will open and you can order them.
The regular certificate sare in Dollar.
When you click on the button Global Amazon Family you can check if you need others.
When you need others in a different country just put in the email that you want specific certificates for a specific family member.

They are not available for India, but you can buy on the regular Amazon website in the .com area.
Most of the sellers there do send to India.
It takes some time to get it delivered, but eventually you will have it.

Please take in mind that the rewards are a vary compelling way to get some money. But it is not about the money. A lot of technicians give answers on other websites also and there is no reward on them. If you contribute a lot in the Microsoft area, you can get the MVP (Most value added Professional) certificate. That is a very rare and wanted certificate.

I would trade all my points to get that kind of recognition from Symantec. I do not post for the points still I like the idea. I contribute to help people get the best out of their job.
I reallt appreciate if you all take the time to vote for a article, comment or other piece on the website. That will give the writer a much better feeling and then they really deserve the points.
So start voting if you like an article. Don't vote to fool the system. The new system will give me less points but a better feeling. I really believ that counts.

            I am the unfortunate guy as I want something from Amazon but they don't ship electronics Items to INDIA. Only send books and music/software cds to INDIA.

Symantec should give something to shop on e-bay.com which supports shipping to most of the countries.

That is not true, I got an IPOD Classic 120 GB some time back over here at Bangalore though I didnt get it from Amazon but directly from the firm that has the account for it with Symantec.

FWIW, I just got my iPod touch after ordering it last week.  All in all from the time of order to time of it actually getting to my door was 8 days.

Usually it takes some time to get the pigeons fly with your gifts. To bad that Amazon does not ship electronics to India. In our case i mostly order Amazon.DE certificates and usually I have them in a few day's. Thanxs to MB Millecam who speaks some German and that makes it easier.

If you really want something absolutely to bad, and you just need it. And it is not in connect and Amazon won't ship it, just send an email to rewards@webwiseone.com.
If they are able to do it, they will. That's what I learned in the previous two years.

Over a year ago my kids wanted a Pleo very badly, and the connect staff helped me to get one. It cost me some more points, but it was worth it.

My special thanxs goes to all the members of connect who are alway's willing to do unusually stuff if they can, to MB Milecam who speaks some german that really helps me and Ohzone who alway's give a good and correct answer to all my questions and bragging.

And the rewards points are absolutely no hoax or what ever.
You earned them and they will pay out, but again: Sometimes it takes time.

Please remember that if you ask a question and somebody provides the solution! Let them now and set the solution as a solution. In that case you reward the person who gave the solution with some points and others can see very fast that the question is solved.
If you read an article that is really worth it! Reward the contributor and vote on it.

You've got the correct message Sheila Marie.
It is all about helping people and supporting others to get their options solved.
Symantec connect is the only website that actually gives points that can be traded in for rewards for giving support to the site.

And people are contributing to help people.

There is nothing much in Rewards for India..other than whats there in the show case.
If a person from India wins 25,000 point ( Hawaii ) it is from US to Hawaii ..or else you get some 1500$( i am not sure ) or something amazon voucher that is not valid for India. As there are not much option for Shipping from Amazon to India.
There are soo many people from india who are in the forums supporting everybody but the option is very limited for them. I think Symantec should think about them as well.

Its not that i am asking for something more its just that i am asking for the same benifits everybody is availing.
Like the example given above by somebody that Symantec should think about Ebay aswell.

If you follow the forums for the rewards etc, you will see that there are more options than you think.
I see items that are not available in Europe yet or twice as expensive.
Amazon.com does not ship them, but there is another way.
Just a small example!
I got a Pleo. In europe over 400 Euro's. In the Us 200$. That is almost 140 Euro. But they do NOT ship it to Europe.
Just send a special request with your adres and the link of the item you want to the rewards@webwise emailadres that is given on the rewards page.
Symantec will searchup the costs of the item and the shipping and send you an email with the total amount of points that will be redeemed for the item.
And they ship it.
One thing to consider.
For goods over 480 Dollar we have to pay taxes in Europe. I do not know if they apply to India also. You can search that up at customs in your country.

I like it and Symantec is very cooperative in that.
Give it a try and get satisfied.
Be aware that shipping costs can be quit high. I do not know how much for India.

MON_RARALIO's idea gave room for Nintendo WII so may be the in the coming days the showcase itself will become a Amazon... :-)  at the moment this reward system is very new and after so many request from people from all across the globe whatever modications/Additions will be done it will done keeping all international users also in mind.

Sodexho is not working out for Symantec for some reason so may be we just have to be patient and expect symantec to come up with a better Idea but i can guarantee you Symantec is working on it..
