I'm interested in enabling Risk Tracer in SEP 12.1.   I've read about it and I'm wondering why it is not enabled by default.  Does it slow down the local machine or add any network traffic?  I'm just wondering if there is a reason to not run it.

(Yes, I'm running Network Threat Protection.)

    What is Risk Tracer?

    About Risk Tracer

Because it polls every second, it *may* affect PC performance. Personally, all our machines have good specs and we've run risk tracer ever since SAV. Have never seen any issues. I wouldn't ever consider turning off risk tracer. Has helped out a bunch, especially with Conficker.

Also note: Risk Tracer relies upon the Windows File and Printer Sharing. If this is disabled (as per MS Article 199346, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/199346) Risk Tracer will not work.

    Hello,

Risk tracer is a feature which would work hand in hand with Network Threat Protection.

If the Network Threat Protection feature is not installed, the feature wouldn't work.

Risk Tracer is useful in outbreaks.

Secondly, This feature may generate network traffic. Check the Article below: http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO27137

    Hope that helps!!
