Hi,

We are planning to upgrade from ITMS 7.1 to Altiris 7.5.

When the ITMS upgrades to 7.5, the Symantec Agents on clients computers automatically contact the NS and automatically upgrade to 7.5. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Assuming that the above is true, and there is some issue with the upgrade or migration, we can rollback to the Altiris 7.1 on the NS. But what happens to the client agents? Can they downgrade themselves to 7.1 if a rollback is required.

Thanks

I always recommend to isolate iis so only localhost and smp's actual ip can connect, just in case a rollback is required and also to prevent any agents from being upgraded by upgrade policies being enabled. You lab work should allow you to record such expectations.

Ok, can you please elaborate what is meant by isolating IIS?.

There are no default upgrade policies setup on the NS, but from what I read in the Symantec upgrade guide, the Legacy Agent Communicator is ON by default in ITMS 7.1 onwards. So, the agents will send communication to register with the new ITMS 7.5. Now, if that is the case, and once the registration and agent upgrade is complete, can the agents still communicate back to the old 7.1 NS or try to register on it?

Isolating IIS is a simple matter of configuring it so that it only allows traffic from the two addesses I mentioned.

IIS Manager > server name > IP Address and Domain Restrictions > Add Allow Entry...

Followed by:-  Edit Fetaure Settings > Deny

You may or may not have to restart IIS afterwards.

I do not know if a 7.5 SMA would talk to a 7.1 SMP, as we do not usually support that type of scenario.
